Empowerment of Women

                             Empowerment of Women

“In our society, the women who break down barriers are those who ignore limits.”
  - Arnold Schwarzenegger

Women empowerment is the empowerment of women which helps them to make their own decisions by breaking all personal limitations of the society and family. The abilities of women in making decisions, education, and profession have been largely suppressed since ages, considering them inferior to men. Women constitute half power of the country so in order to make this country a fully powerful country, women empowerment is very necessary. They give birth to the baby means the future of the nation so only they can better involve in making the bright future of the nation through the proper growth and development of the children. Without the equal inclusion of women in development, women would not be able to benefit or contribute to the development of the country. They need to be empowered instead of treating as a helpless victim of male chauvinism. Scholars have identified two forms of empowerment, economic empowerment, and political empowerment. Economic empowerment increases women's agency, access to formal government programs, mobility outside the home, economic independence, and purchasing power. Political empowerment supports creating policies that would best support gender equality and agency for women in both the public and private spheres. Popular methods that have been suggested are to create affirmative action policies that have a quota for the number of women in policymaking and parliament positions. As of 2017, the global average of women who hold lower and single house parliament positions is 23.6 percent. Women empowerment can be measured through the Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM), which shows women's participation in a given nation, both politically and economically.  Many of the barriers to women's empowerment and equity lie ingrained in cultural norms. Many women feel these pressures, while others have become accustomed to being treated inferior to men. To overcome these barriers women should be educated. The most famous saying said by the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is “To awaken the people, it is the women who must be awakened. Once she is on the move, the family moves, the village moves, the nation moves”. Women empowerment helps women to look upon their lives as a confident being. It encourages women to stand and fight for their rights and live a worthy life. There is not a radical but a little bit of change in the mindset of people that are allowing women to walk on the pathway of development.
