Load-Shedding

Load Shedding

Modern age is an age of science and science has invented many wonders for the comforts of the mankind. One of those wonders is electricity. We largely depend on electricity. Its uses are manifold. Electricity brings light by dispelling the darkness and makes our life easier. Unfortunately, ours is an over-populated country. Day by day the population of the country is increasing by leaps and bound. So it creates a pressure on the consumption of electricity. Frequently the continuous flow of electricity is interrupted. When the supply of electricity is cut off, it is called load-shedding. It is the suspension of electricity supply on certain lines when demand is greater than the generation. It has become a very common affair in our daily life these days. The people living in the areas supplied with electricity are quite familiar with the term load shedding. For the discontinuation of electricity, people take the help of candle-sticks and lantern. The causes of load-shedding are numerous and ranges from increased developments, policy issues, technical issues, management, corruption and inefficiencies and more. Besides, unplanned distribution and illegal connection of electricity are also responsible for it. In the modern world electricity plays a very important role in regulating our life. Any interruption in the supply of this vital item of energy can put the whole system out of order and simultaneously can paralyze our daily activities. It creates various serious problems. Because of the crisis of the electricity the entire country plunges into impenetrable darkness. The students are affected by it if it occurs at night. They sit idly in the dark closing their books. They suffer terribly owing to load-shedding on the night before their examination. Mills, factories, industries, all academic and socio-economic institution seriously suffer due to it. The housewife gropes in the darkness in the kitchen. The shops are to close down before the closing time. The patients also suffer terribly because operation stops in hospitals for load-shedding. Load-shedding at night also encourages the thieves. It seems that everything comes to a standstill and so life becomes really painful. Due to load-shedding in villages irrigation system is disturbed and different pumps cannot function properly for the power failure. Thus agriculture is handicapped and the future of the country is sealed. In a country like ours it is very difficult to solve the problem of load-shedding. Yet we can go a long way by establishing new power plants, ensuring planned distribution, reducing system loss and checking illegal connections. If these are ensured, we may expect to get rid of the curse of load-shedding. The public and the Government should work together to make a balance between consumption and production so that we can get rid of load-shedding.
